First-half goals from Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres secured the points for Arsenal in Prague, but Mikel Arteta’s side were made to sweat after the break as sustained pressure from the hosts eventually brought a late close-range strike from Wiktor Nowak.
The Gunners threatened to score with every attack in a dominant opening spell. Madueke rounded off a swift break in the ninth minute after Gyokeres’ clever pass over the defence, before the Swede doubled the lead with a tidy finish seven minutes before half-time.
That should have been that, but Arsenal’s sloppiness gave the hosts encouragement. They grew in confidence as the game wore on, finishing with 18 attempts at goal and leaving the visitors relieved to hear the final whistle.
