From the source

Let’s start with the news that Arsenal are set to appeal Max Dowman’s red card against Fleetwood on Tuesday evening. I think that’s probably the right thing to do, because had that gone to a VAR review, I think they’d have really struggled to make a compelling case that this was violent conduct.

Was it a small retaliation? Did it meet the threshold for violent conduct?

As laid out in the rules of the game, it is defined thus: Violent conduct is when a player uses or attempts to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball, or against a team-mate, team official, match official, spectator or any other person, regardless of whether contact is made.
