From the source

China’s state broadcaster has rejected apologies from Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid following the French forward’s controversial remarks about former Chinese leader Mao Zedong. China Media Group (CMG) has maintained its decision to stop broadcasting matches involving the France captain, despite attempts to resolve the dispute, according to The Telegraph.

The controversy began after an interview clip resurfaced in which Mbappe discussed an internet meme depicting him as Mao. The Real Madrid forward had been jokingly compared to dictators because of his perceived influence over the clubs and teams he represents.

Speaking on a French podcast earlier this year, Mbappe described an edited image of himself resembling the Chinese revolutionary leader. The comments prompted criticism in China, where Mao remains an important historical figure and is revered by the ruling Communist Party.
