Athletic Club star Nico Williams has this weekend revealed that he knocked back the interest of two of European football’s leading clubs, to stay put in Bilbao.
Wide-man Nico has for his part of course long been tipped for a potential Athletic departure. After emerging as a key player for Luis de La Fuente’s Spanish national team, the 24-year-old’s talents began to be recognised beyond the confines of La Liga, throughout the continent.
Back in the summer of 2025, it was Hansi Flick’s Barcelona who pushed hardest for his signature, only for Nico to surprise the masses in penning a new long-term contract at San Mamés.
