Matthias Jaissle has selected his Newcastle United lineup vs Everton for this evening’s EFL Cup tie on Merseyside. Real pressure has been building on the youth German boss in recent weeks amid a run of poor results for Newcastle.

Jaissle brought himself some breathing space though at the weekend, when Newcastle headed to the capital and beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park. While that was a welcome boost, Jaissle knows if it was followed up with an EFL Cup exit tonight then a lot of the feel-good factor would be undone.

With Fleetwood Town waiting for the winners in the next round, Newcastle would have a real chance of going deep in the EFL Cup if they can get the better of Everton now.
