Aston Villa’s recent recovery has given Unai Emery fresh reasons to enjoy his work, despite the financial restrictions that have dictated his recruitment plans. After losing three of their opening four Premier League matches, Villa have won six of their next seven games across competitions, including a 2-1 victory over Manchester City.
That result marked Villa’s fourth consecutive home win against City and strengthened the belief that Emery can rebuild his team without relying on expensive, established stars.
Villa remain 12th in the league, but their perfect start to the Champions League league phase offers further encouragement. According to John Townley’s report for Birmingham Live, Emery feels particularly motivated by the challenge of developing a younger squad.
