Michael Carrick has been given more time to turn things around at Manchester United, according to The Athletic reporter Laurie Whitwell. The decision comes after an intense meeting between the club’s senior leaders on Monday.
Carrick’s position was hanging by a thread following Sunday’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford. The loss was United’s second consecutive defeat by a three-goal margin, following their 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como on Wednesday.
United have collected just seven points from their opening eight league matches, their worst start to a top-flight season in 40 years. However, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox held discussions on Monday before deciding to keep Carrick in charge for now.
