Newcastle United’s win over Crystal Palace was a step in the right direction, even if Everton was the reverse, but it did raise questions about the Magpies ability to see out games.

From the source

Newcastle United’s win over Crystal Palace offered some much-needed breathing room for Matthias Jaissle, ending a run of poor results and giving the Magpies their first clean sheet and away win in the league since August.

However, despite the many positives that came from this win, there were still aspects of the performance that were far from convincing. The defensive vulnerabilities on show at Selhurst Park, are issues Jaissle still needs to address, particularly after they resurfaced in the subsequent defeat to Everton.

Much could be said about how impotent Jaissle’s men were in attack and defence during the first half. According to FotMob, Palace recorded an xG figure of 1.17 and had 13 touches in the opposition box, compared to Newcastle’s measly 0.15 xG and five touches in the box.
