Carragher: Swift Man City sanctions need to last ‘years and years’
Story updated
The story in brief
32-second readJamie Carragher believes that sanctions need to be imposed on Man City this season and should have a long-lasting effect. Last week an independent commission found them guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of Premier League financial rules.
It was found that City had arranged 'sham' contracts that inflated their revenue by £854 million and decreased their actual expenditure by £66 million. City have lodged their appeal against the decision, insisting that they are innocent and "a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence" will exonerate them.
Carragher argues that any potential punishment needs to happen this term, and "should go on for years and years", or else the Premier League season runs the risk of being a "sham".
