'Verbally we agreed' - Shakhtar Donetsk expect compensation from Tottenham Hotspur
Story updated
The story in brief
33-second readShakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin has revealed what Tottenham Hotspur verbally agreed regarding Manor Solomon, who left the Lilywhites to join West Ham in the summer.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a FIFA ruling allowed foreign players at clubs in both countries to suspend their contracts immediately. Spurs were thus able to secure Solomon on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, even though the Ukrainian club had spent £5.5m to sign him from Maccabi Petah Tikva in January 2019.
The winger only played six times for Tottenham across his three-year spell at the club, partly down to his injury issues, with the Israeli international sealing a £5m move (plus £2m in add-ons) to West Ham in the recent window.
