With Coventry shellshocked they were there for the taking and Newcastle United then…4-1

It ended Coventry 4 Newcastle 1, Monday night football and Newcastle United do not mix well. This was a humiliating defeat at the Coventry Building Society Arena, United going down by four goals to one on an evening where they dominated possession but lacked the clinical finishing of their hosts.

Despite controlling 67% of the ball and unleashing 19 shots, United were punished as a series of defensive lapses and profligate finishing proved costly.

The evening got off to a terrible start when Lukas Hornicek spilled the ball before fouling Sidiki Cherif in the box, Jack Rudoni converting from the spot to put the hosts in front.
