Time for Heroes: Michael Carrick loses grip on Man Utd survival

The story in brief
33-second readMichael Carrick is about to find out if his Manchester United side will swim or sink in the furnace. “You know I cherish you, my love” is a lyric from the brilliant Time for Heroes, by The Libertines.
It was written by the ever-poetic Pete Doherty, who, as far as I’m aware, has no connection to Manchester United . The song came to mind over the weekend as I pondered Michael Carrick’s future as head coach and thought about this very column.
Tottenham was another springboard opportunity gone wasted, like Fulham before the international break. Instead, much like the shortcomings at Craven Cottage, the Reds flattered to deceive – this time at Old Trafford, where the atmosphere is turning moody.
