The story in brief
7-second readManchester City manager Enzo Maresca has explained his midfield selection and Ayyoub Bouaddi's absence from the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park.
From the source
Maresca watched his unbeaten start to life as City manager in the Premier League come to an end at Villa Park, where two goals from Nicolas Jackson either side of an Erling Haaland equaliser sealed a 2-1 victory for Unai Emery's side.
It was the first league defeat of the 2026/27 season for Manchester City, who had won each of their opening seven games under the Italian after he replaced Pep Guardiola in June.
Bouaddi, 19, arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Lille for £86 million in the final weeks of the summer window, making his first Premier League start in the 3-2 win over Ipswich Town a few weeks ago.
