Steven Gerrard praised Estevao's performance for Chelsea against Manchester United, highlighting his direct approach and hunger to shoot. Gerrard told The Overlap Daily that he loved the teenager's performance, citing his flair and quality as typical of a Brazilian player. Gerrard noted that Liverpool lack a player like Estevao, who is hungry to get shots off. Gerrard referenced a specific instance where Estevao chose to shoot instead of passing.
Estevao started against Manchester United after Chelsea fans and Joe Cole's son urged Xabi Alonso to give him a chance. Estevao delivered a superb display, having two goals disallowed. Alonso gave Estevao a big hug when he was substituted. The Brazil winger had a chance to pick out a teammate but instead shot straight at Senne Lammens.
Gerrard believes Estevao will cause selection problems for Alonso when Joao Pedro returns from unavailability. Gerrard stated that Neto is a great player, but Alonso will struggle to fit Estevao into the starting XI alongside Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, and Pedro. Alonso may retain Estevao or keep Neto wide right when Pedro returns.

Xabi Alonso finally appeased Chelsea supporters and even Joe Cole’s son by starting Estevao against Manchester United. Steven Gerrard is a huge fan of the Brazilian. Cole spoke to Alonso before the game for an interview and told The Dressing Room podcast that he took his son Harry with him, given it is half-term. Cole says his son Harry’s first question was about Estevao. The next day, Estevao started. It wasn’t only Cole’s son who had been urging Alonso to start Estevao, but the entire Chelsea fanbase, too.
