From the source
Chelsea face a difficult decision over the future of Stamford Bridge as they look to close the financial gap on their Premier League rivals. The club’s current home is steeped in history, but its limited capacity makes it harder to generate the income available to teams with larger stadiums.
Chelsea brought in £87 million in matchday revenue during the 2024-25 season, compared to Tottenham’s £126 million. Spurs can also host up to 30 non-football events at full capacity, including NFL games and concerts, helping them generate £277 million in commercial revenue, while the Blues generated £200.9 million.
Moving to a bigger stadium could help Chelsea narrow that gap, but finding a suitable solution is far from straightforward. The Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO), established in 1993, own the freehold of Stamford Bridge.
