Wayne Rooney says Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans only works if another Man Utd star’s role is tweaked

Wayne Rooney has worked out one way that Manchester United could still tap into the full extent of the midfield dynamic involving Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans.

Michael Carrick has relied on summer signing Youri Tielemans to play in the two-man midfield pivot alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the absence of Carlos Baleba .

However, the Red Devils midfield dynamic of Mainoo and Tielemans struggled with the pressure of Tottenham’s pressing against Manchester United on Saturday. United manager Michael Carrick was able to correct the balance of the midfield in the 1-1 draw after Tielemans was subbed off and Carlos Baleba came onto the pitch.
