From the source

Cologne head coach René Wagner praised Malek El Mala following the striker’s remarkable Bundesliga debut against Union Berlin on Sunday afternoon. The 21-year-old came off the bench to rescue a 1-1 draw for the visiting side, scoring just seven minutes after entering the pitch and earning the Bundesliga’s Man of the Match award.

Malek polished off one of his brother’s crosses that happened to be flicked on by Alessio Castro-Montes. Wagner explained afterward that the decision to introduce the older of the two El Mala brothers was a deliberate response to Union’s deep defensive approach.

The Cologne trainer also emphasized that Malek’s moment in the spotlight had been thoroughly earned through his dedication in training and his continued work with the club’s reserve team.
