History was made on Monday night at the London Palladium. Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane was named the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner ahead of Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
Kane became the first English player to win the award since Michael Owen all the way back in 2001, and he also became the first Bayern player to win since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge did so in 1981, having also won it in 1980.
To add to the history, the England skipper was also the first Bundesliga player to be given the honor since Matthias Sammer back in 1996 when he played for Borussia Dortmund.
