Lille considering legal action after Santos suffers horrific injury

Story updated

The story in brief

33-second read

Lille are considering legal action after the horrific injury sustained by Tiago Santos during Saturday’s home match against Le Havre. Santos was carried off on a stretcher after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament and suffering a tear of the meniscus in his right knee.

The 24-year-old picked up the injury from a dangerous tackle by Amir Richardson in the first half. The referee gave a foul, but the Le Havre midfielder did not receive a yellow or red card for the challenge.

Lille believe he should have been shown a straight red because it was made ‘from behind, uncontrolled and in a dangerous manner’. The Ligue 1 club have asked for the incident to be referred to the disciplinary committee.
