The story in brief
32-second readBy: Ben Dixon Mehdi Benatia is no stranger to Italian football, and he would happily return to Italy to join AC Milan as their sporting director.
Most will know Benatia for his time on the pitch, playing for Udinese, Roma, Bayern Munich and Juventus before his career tailed off. However, some may know him also for his work off the field as a sporting director.
Indeed, the Moroccan joined Marseille in 2023 and remained at the club until the end of last season, when the parties split. In his first full season, he helped the club to a second placed finish in Ligue 1, and last season, they finished a respectable fifth after issues on and off the field.
