The World Football Index reported on the poor performance of forwards in the EPL, citing that only two of the top 20 scoring players in FPL are forwards. Erling Haaland and João Pedro are the top goal scorers with six and five goals respectively.
The top scorers in FPL are dominated by midfielders and defenders, with Brighton’s De Cuyper leading the table with 53 points. Forwards like Isak are scarce among the top point scorers, appearing only at position 22.
The poor performance of forwards may be attributed to the changing tactics in the Premier League, with attacking fullbacks becoming a common feature, and the blame for underperforming xG falling on strikers who fail to finish.

Source context
We are currently six gameweeks into the 26/27 season, and a lot has happened already. Some things are proving more predictable than others. For instance, Erling Haaland remains the top goal scorer so far with a total of six goals for City, though not by landslide numbers – so far, anyway. Chelsea’s João Pedro is trailing closely behind with five goals, and a recent near-miss at a hat trick in the game against Bournemouth in early October. Still, so early in the season, we can’t critique Haaland too strongly for not jetting off into the distance with a hat trick every game.
