The story in brief

32-second read

Former Tottenham man Giovani Lo Celso nearly produced a Puskás-worthy strike in Real Betis’ clash with Barcelona, but VAR ruled out the stunning effort. Giovani Lo Celso never truly lived up to expectations at Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder signed permanently from Real Betis on 28 January 2020 after Spurs triggered their purchase option. Lo Celso went on to make 108 appearances for Tottenham, scoring just ten goals and registering eight assists during his time in north London.

He did have standout moments, including his dream full debut against Red Star Belgrade in November 2019, where he opened the scoring in a 4-0 win and controlled the tempo of the game, giving fans a glimpse of his playmaking ability.
