Liverpool are reportedly planning to overhaul their midfield, potentially sacrificing Alexis Mac Allister, despite his recent resurgence in form. According to Sky Sports Switzerland, the Reds are firm on not offering Mac Allister a contract extension. Mac Allister's contract is set to expire in 2028, and Liverpool may be looking to sell him to bring in a quality signing. This approach could be risky, as Mac Allister is one of their more valuable assets.
Mac Allister has been performing well for Liverpool, and his passing has been impactful under Andoni Iraola's methods. He sits deeper than Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, and there are concerns that selling him might not be in the team's best interests unless Szoboszlai and Gravenberch significantly improve. The team needs to see serious improvement from these players to justify selling Mac Allister. Real Madrid is reportedly keen on Mac Allister, but they are currently the only serious suitor.
Selling Mac Allister with a year left on his contract could result in being bullied on the price tag, as there isn't a bidding war at present. Liverpool might be trying to protect his value by not extending his contract, but this strategy is questionable. The potential downside is that they might not get the best price for Mac Allister if they decide to sell him. Real Madrid is the only serious suitor for Mac Allister at this stage.

Source context
Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. Sky Sports Germany claim that the Argentine star is high on Real Madrid’s wishlist, with the Spanish outfit paying close attention to the situation ahead of the footballer’s contract expiring in the summer of 2028. There were suspicions that a truly horrendous domestic campaign from the former Brighton man would culminate in his departure from Anfield this summer. However, following an impressive (and evidently rejuvenating) World Cup campaign with Argentina, we’ve seen Mac Allister reborn in the middle of the park for Andoni Iraola’s men. In fact, there’s a pretty convincing case you could make for the 27-year-old being a strong contender, alongside Jeremy Jacquet, for Liverpool’s player of the season, as things currently stand.
