The two defenders potentially for sale are Fofana and Gusto, who have frustrated Chelsea fans with their performances. Fofana has been injured for much of his early time at the club and has looked uninterested since his return, while Gusto has been consistently available but underwhelming. Last night's Carabao Cup match saw Gusto make defensive errors and miss counter-attack opportunities, and Fofana miss a crucial penalty.
However, selling these players may be challenging. Gusto had some interest from Manchester City in the summer, but Chelsea's asking price was too high. Fofana's high wages and the large fee Chelsea paid for him make selling without a loss difficult. Potential buyers are also aware of the same flaws that are frustrating Chelsea fans.

Chelsea are considering selling two defenders, Dean Jones of FlashScore has reported today. Last night saw the Blues knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Liverpool, another game where their defence looked shaky. They have kept just two clean sheets all season under Xabi Alonso, and have conceded multiple goals in the vast majority of games. It’s not entirely down to the individual players, but patience with some of them has certainly run out.
