Former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has opened up about his early experiences in Spain, recalling how his arrival at Real Madrid as a 16-year-old was far from the welcome he had expected.

The Cameroonian, who went on to become one of the most successful forwards in European football, revealed that nobody from the Spanish giants came to collect him when he landed at Barajas Airport, leaving him to find his own way forward.

Eto’o eventually established himself among the elite forwards of his generation, enjoying successful spells at Barcelona and Inter Milan. However, his journey towards the top began with a challenging period in Madrid, where his early experiences taught him important lessons about independence and perseverance.
