The match saw United control possession but fall behind in the 17th minute to Charlie Fletcher's goal. Rooney equalized just after the half-hour mark with a header from Junior Brown's cross.
After the break, Jaume Camacho was introduced and United continued to create chances. Despite Rooney's red card in the 62nd minute for a second yellow, United took the lead five minutes later through Camacho's finish from Brown's assist. The win was sealed with further goals from Noah Ajayi and Camacho, his seventh in three games.
The win was a notable achievement given United played with 10 men for over 30 minutes. The team will be back in action at Carrington next week hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Cup. United's summer signing Karim Cassim started his first game for the team, having previously made his debut off the bench against Liverpool.

Manchester United U18s travelled to face Blackburn Rovers U18s on Saturday morning. Summer signing Karim Cassim was handed his first start for United since joining from rivals Manchester City in the summer. Cassim had recently made his debut off the bench, where he provided two assists against Liverpool. The home side featured some familiar faces in their line-up, with multiple former United academy players, including goalkeeper Teddy Garside, who was tested early by Edson Dejonge-Seiros’ curling effort that went straight down the throat of the keeper. Despite controlling the majority of possession and creating a few half-chances, United fell behind in the 17th minute. Another former United player, Charlie Fletcher, pounced on a turnover high up the pitch before calmly slotting past Charlie Hardy to put Blackburn ahead.
