Barcelona explored the possibility of signing 2026 Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane last summer as they searched for a new striker, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Catalan club contacted the England international’s camp to understand the conditions of a potential deal after prioritising Julian Alvarez, whose departure from Atlético Madrid proved impossible to negotiate.

The England captain, who beat Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal for the Ballon d’Or, appreciated Barcelona’s interest, but his focus remained on Bayern Munich, where he has now agreed a new contract until 2029.
