From the source

Carabao Cup nights at Anfield do not always follow the script, and this one certainly refused to. Liverpool needed a penalty shootout to see off Chelsea and book their place in the last eight, grinding out a 6-5 win on spot kicks after a tense 1-1 draw in normal time.

It was scrappy, occasionally chaotic and nerve-shredding from start to finish, but in a competition built on survival rather than style, that was exactly enough to keep the run going.

Ninety minutes could not separate the sides, and in the end it took twelve kicks and a missed one to do it. The build-up carried extra intrigue thanks to two deeply familiar names lining up for the visitors.
