Viktor Gyokeres was handed a start in Prague on Wednesday night, and to be fair, he made the most of it. With Kai Havertz rested after scoring the winner at Anfield, Mikel Arteta made six changes for the trip to Slavia Prague.
But he admitted afterwards that Gyokeres was picked with a specific plan in mind, and the striker delivered. Ironically, Arsenal faced Slavia at the same stadium on the exact same date last year.
Gyokeres missed that 3-0 win through injury, which interrupted his early-season momentum. Twelve months on, he made sure he didn’t miss out this time. Gyokeres set up Noni Madueke’s opener and then scored a brilliant goal of his own in the 2-1 win, earning UEFA’s Player of the Match award.
