Source context

This brief is drawn from Anfield Watch. The original report is linked below for its complete context.

Earlier report

Liverpool have another new signing in their sights and they’ve wasted no time to get him on the shortlist. Things could move quickly from here. There's no question that Liverpool need a centre-back. There's no way around it at this stage with their defensive problems ramping up dramatically in 2027. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez will both be out of contract next summer. That's a dramatic issue for Liverpool, who have had Van Dijk marshalling their defence since 2018.
