From the source

Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Anfield leaves them nine points off the top of the Premier League, and the temptation after a result like that is to start staring nervously at the table.

Virgil van Dijk chose the opposite approach, and it is exactly the message this squad needed to hear. Rather than dwelling on the gap to Arsenal, Manchester City or a surprising Brighton side in third, van Dijk pushed his teammates to look inward.

He made clear that worrying about what rivals are doing achieves nothing when Liverpool are still four months into life under a new head coach and still working out their own identity.
