Newcastle United have endured a difficult autumn, and Matthias Jaissle needs more depth to prevent defensive problems from undermining his first season in charge. However, the Magpies responded with a 2-0 victory away to Crystal Palace on October 25, giving Jaissle some breathing room.
The result offered encouragement, but Newcastle still need more depth to handle a demanding campaign without compromising their defensive structure. Lewis Hall remains Newcastle’s main natural option at left-back, leaving the manager with limited alternatives when injuries disrupt his plans.
Tino Livramento can cover defensive positions, but his own fitness problems have complicated squad selection. Meanwhile, Newcastle invested heavily in attacking areas during the summer, including £51 million on Matias Fernandez-Pardo and £47 million on Nico González.
