Chatzialexiou, 50, has experience working for the German Football Federation and previously worked as a youth coach at Eintracht Frankfurt. He has been Nürnberg's sporting executive since 2024. Regional broadcaster Hessischer Rundfunk reports that Chatzialexiou currently has an advantage in the selection process, although Nürnberg stated they had not received a direct approach from Frankfurt.
The appointment comes at a critical time for Frankfurt as they attempt to restructure their sporting leadership. The new executive will need to address personnel questions ahead of the January transfer window and establish a productive working relationship with CEO Axel Hellmann and head coach Adi Hütter. Both Chatzialexiou and Schäfer bring different professional backgrounds to the table.
