From the source

Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappé was 28 points away from winning the Ballon d'Or this year, according to L'Equipe. Harry Kane finished on 1,055 points, and Mbappé was on 1,027 points, meaning the Frenchman was only 28 points away from winning the whole thing.

It is a very heartbreaking situation for Mbappé to be losing an award he has chased all his life by the smallest of margins.

Obviously, Harry Kane also had an incredible season and probably deserved the Ballon d'Or over the Frenchman because of the goals he scored, the way he impacted his team's performance, and the titles he won as well.
